Lincrusta Advanced Installer
Novitas Decorators are an Advanced Lincrusta Installer, completing the course in October 2018.
Lincrusta is a uniquely British made product, not produced or copied anywhere else in the world. It has been around since 1877 and was an instant success, replacing the painstaking, labour intensive artisan plasterwork the Victorians sought after. It is a combination of using linseed oil putty and wax, which is then rolled onto paper using heavily embossed, hand engraved silver rollers.
It has a deep embossed feel to it. It’s hard wearing and very forgiving as a wallcovering and can be coloured with a myriad of finishes. It can accept broken colour scumble finishes with additive or subtractive effects, in both water based and oil based finishes.
Examples are found in locations all over the world. British pubs traditionally had a lot of it installed, giving them a feeling of grandeur. It is found in Royal Palaces, private homes, hotels and business premises and even in the White House itself.
Many Victorian and Edwardian properties in the UK still have the original installation, which shows its durability as a decorative product. It works particularly well in these period properties, as they have high ceilings, dado rails and deep skirtings and architraves. Combined with a highly decorative coloured mix, a stunning finish can be achieved and will last for many years.
