This particular project, a hand painted kitchen, was undertaken in Blackheath, South East London.
This kitchen was a bespoke design, hand built DeVol kitchen in a beautifully kept Victorian house. The colour went from a light grey to Farrow and Ball’s railings, which is a dark, blue black colour which is very popular at the moment.
Usually we always colour match Farrow and Ball due the longevity we need to maintain the durability and opted for Benjamin Moore’s Scuff X
Hand painted kitchen cabinets can add a unique and personalised touch to your home. If you’re considering this project, here’s a step-by-step guide to help you get started.
Cleaning and Preparation
The first step is to thoroughly clean your cabinets. Use a de-greaser to remove any grease or grime. Pay close attention to the cabinet doors and drawers, as these are the most visible areas.
Once clean, sand the cabinets lightly to create a smooth surface for the paint to adhere to. We usually use 400 grade Mirka Gold flex
After sanding, fill any dents or scratches with wood filler. Let the filler dry completely before sanding it smooth. This will help ensure a smooth and even finish.

Painting the Cabinets
Priming: Before applying the paint, prime the cabinets. This will help the paint adhere better and provide a more durable finish.
We use a fine filament brush like Monarch, to achieve a quality lay off and 2 Fussy Blokes roller sleeves
Choose a primer specifically designed for cabinets. Apply a thin, even coat, and let it dry completely before moving on to the next step. In this case we used Tikkurila’s Akva, mixed to a dark colour.
Painting: We opted to use high quality paint specifically designed for cabinets. In this instance we used Benjamin Moore’s Scuff X, colour matched to Farrow and Balls Railings
Use a brush or roller, depending on your preference. Apply a thin, even coat and let it dry completely.
Second Coat: Once the first coat is dry, apply a second coat. This will help ensure a more even and durable finish. Again, let the paint dry completely before moving on to the next step.
Finishing Touches: Let the top coats dry completely before rehanging the cabinet doors and drawers.
